A Year in Film Photography

January 25, 2012

A year in film is my vow for 2012. So long as my tiny piggy bank allows it, I will shoot film over digital as much as I can. I started in film like most people before digital existed. And took a course in college using my grandfather’s (who was a great photographer) Canon AE-1. After the birth of our second child I got a DSLR and drowned myself in photography blogs and learning sites.  Then I discovered Jonathan Canlas. Period. Preview his blog and you will see the beauty of his images.

I have largely been inspired by Imageisfound and Max Wanger (professional digital photographers) and Jonathan Canlas and Becky Earl (professional film photographers).  And in particular the FIND guide by Jonathan Canlas (which is due to arrive in February, 2012 via Amazon).

I’d like to go further and further into film photography for two reasons. I feel like the continuous click and dump of mass loads of images onto the computer which rarely get printed is sad for me. I’d like to make each image I capture a piece of art. And I think the look of film, particularly Kodak Porta 400 on a Contax 645 (which I do not own) is so beautiful, especially with portraits.

I have four rolls of film waiting to be developed. So in the meantime, or in-between times, I will post digital.
