I grew an inch, or a foot, or whatever the proportional measurement of growth I experienced as a photographer this weekend may be.
I was given the opportunity to second shoot (or maybe third, since there were two of us assisting) for a really talented and awesome wedding photoghrapher, Kori Hoffman. One key thing I learned this weekend was a way to use window light for portraits. I also shot lower (or higher, however you want to say it) than f1.4. I was around 2.8 and higher and the results were so much sharper and clearer than I’m used to. It was awesome! I told Kori in a text, “I feel like a new person!” since learning how to use window light the correct way, it was like a “light” (pun intended) went on in my camera and brain! Here’s a few practice shots using my new-found skill. These shots may look the same as all of my other images to you and that’s fine, at least I know how to get a clear shot with only a window and a head. And I say I grew an inch because I know there is so, so, so much more to learn. Sorry no wedding photos yet.

These are all f2 or higher and in Nina’s bedroom with one window and our family room – both rooms have North/South facing light. I love the one of Luca stretching the necklace.
